Abortion is the killing of human beings before birth by the use of drugs or surgery. A miscarriage (sometimes called a spontaneous abortion), is the death of an unborn child resulting from natural causes. Unborn children are human beings from the moment of conception. This is a scientific fact and a biblical fact (Psalm 51:5, Psalm 139:13-16, Gen 25:22, Hosea 12:3, Job 31:15, Jeremiah 1:5)
There are around 100,000 surgical abortions in Australia every year. The number of chemical abortions (caused by the morning-after pill, & drugs such as RU-486 is unknown but considerable). There are an estimated 70-100 millions abortions p.a. worldwide.

What are the effects on women who have abortions?
There are dozens of studies that indicate these women experience a rise in sexual dysfunction, impotency, aversion to sex, loss of intimacy, unexpected guilt and extramarital affairs, traumatic stress syndrome, personality fragmentation, grief responses, child abuse and neglect (that is further child abuse, excluding the child abuse they may unwittingly have already been party to or may have been coerced into - observe the numbers of girls crying as they are dragged along to Abortion Clinics by boyfriends or parents or have been told this is their only 'choice' by a school counseller), and increases in drug and alcohol abuse.
They are 5 times as likely to abuse drugs and 6 times more likely to commit suicide.1
A 1991 study by Dr Catherine Barnard found 18.8% of these women were diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and a further 39-45% had sleep disorders, hyper-vigilance, and flashbacks. She concludes that nearly 50% suffer some type of emotional trauma.
A 5 year UK study found the 25% sought out psychiatric care as opposed to only 3% of women with no prior abortions.
In America there are a large number of Post-Abortion support groups. Some of these are Women Exploited by Abortion, Victims of Choice, Healing Encouragement for Abortion related Trauma (HEART), Women of Ramah, Project Rachel, Open Arms, Abortion Trauma Services, American Victims of Abortion. Women Exploited by Abortion for example has over 30,000 members alone. There are no such support groups for other surgical procedures such as root canals or hip replacements.

Why is abortion available on demand in the three most populous states where it is illegal?”
The abortionists rely on an incorrect judicial interpretation of the word “life” in the Criminal Codes of each of these states, as well as a reluctance on the part of law enforcement bodies to enforce the law.
In each of these states abortion is prima facie illegal. The only exception being “for the preservation of the mother’s life.”
These words vary somewhat from state to state.
In precedents set in judicial rulings in each state, the word “life” has been incorrectly interpreted as “being necessary to preserve the woman from serious danger to her life and physical and mental health.”
Once again, the actual words vary somewhat from state to state.
A fundamental rule of statutory interpretation is that where words are not ambiguous but are plain they must be given their plain meaning. The word “life” in each instance can only mean actual physical life, not physical or mental health.
Although these precedents do not alter the law, they can be safely relied upon as a defence until overturned, either in a Court of Appeal, or by a contrary judgement given in a higher court.
It will be noted, however, that the abortion must be necessary ‘to preserve the woman from serious danger to her life and physical and mental health.’
With modern medical technology, this situation very rarely arises. The only circumstance that readily comes to mind is ectopic pregnancy, where the pregnancy occurs in one of the woman’s Fallopian tubes. This pregnancy will kill the woman if allowed to continue.
It is, thankfully, quite rare. Ironically, one of the most common causes of this condition is having had a prior abortion!
There needs to be a strictly policed regulation in place requiring that a woman can only obtain an abortion upon referral from an independent obstetrician/gynaecologist who has provided her with a medical certificate to the effect that to continue with the pregnancy would pose a serious danger to her life and physical and mental health.

Won’t bringing ‘unwanted children’ into the world lead to more child abuse?
Statistics show in fact that abortion has resulted in an increase in child abuse of born children. For example, in the first 10 years after the legalisation of abortion in the USA, child abuse increased by over 500%. This is sadly not at all surprising as when children are viewed as expendable and unworthy before birth, they were also be viewed in a similar way after birth.

Are there any situational ethics that justify abortion?
No. Rape and incest are not solved by killing the innocent child conceived. Blame the father, not the unborn. Statistically, pregnancy from rape is very rare – around at most 1 per 1000. Around 1% of abortions in America are cited as because of rape. If your father committed a crime, should you go to jail for it. If you discovered you were the result of your mother being raped would you feel you no longer had a right to live?

Isn’t abortion a private matter between a doctor and the pregnant mother?
If we were to witness a drunken man abusing a child it would not be enough to say we disagree with his actions. We should feel compelled to act and attempt to stop the abuse. The situation is very similar in the case of the ultimate of child abuse, which is abortion. This is not a private matter. Since we are talking about the killing of another human being, it is a very public matter. There is no other incidence of killing (legal or not) in Australia where the government makes the tax-payer subsidise the cost of the killing, and the killer gets off without any penalty, in fact he/she is allowed to make a profit from it.

What hope is there? How can we reduce the holocaust here in Australia?
Two major and proven initiatives are:
1. Recent research in the USA, indicates that since 4D Ultrasound machines were introduced into America’s Pregnancy Resource Centres 80-90% of ‘abortion-minded’ women who visit these Centres, now decide to keep their unborn children compared with only 20-30% beforehand.
2. The Vitae Caring Foundation’s TV commercials have had a huge impact in America. For example the abortion rate in Colorado fell by over 57% over just three years as a result of these ads.

Do its leaders have integrity, character, purity & humility?
You may need to decide the answer to this question by meeting with us and getting to know us. We would certainly rate these character traits very highly and recognise that anyone desiring to be more Christ-like in their day-to day walk must demonstrate and strive to attain these characteristics as fully as humanly possible.

Won’t making abortion illegal lead to many deaths from ‘backyard abortions’?
This is also a blatant fallacy that was perpetuated by the abortion industry. In the USA, prior to the ‘legalisation’ of abortion, 90% were performed in physicians offices. Prominent abortionists such as Dr Bernard Nathanson (now a pro-life advocate) admitted that they greatly inflated the numbers of deaths from ‘back-yard’ abortions in the USA. In Poland, when abortion was legal they had, for example, 168,000 abortions in 1970. Since making it illegal they had only 253 in 1998. Poland now has 25% less miscarriages and 30% fewer women dying. In fact the latest annual report is that Poland had 21 women die for pregnancy related problems. Women still die from legal abortions to the tune of over 300 in America.
